Pretty much everyone knows but for those of you in the back, let me spell it out: Black Coffee is an international mogul. Just last week, an entire billboard with his face on it went up in LA to prove it.

With his star shining ever brighter, more and more international media want a piece of him. So, for his latest interview, he sat down with Complex News in London where he spoke on everything from the work he wants to do for South African music, his favourite British acts and also a major forthcoming collaborations.

“I have a lot of them. But one of them, it’s almost happening […] is Pharrell,” he said. “We’re working on a song already; we spent some time in the studio.”

He went on to say that he’s also helping out with David Guetta’s new album. If that sounds weird to you, consider shifting your paradigm on Black Coffee for a moment. While some may inaccurately call him ‘DJ Black Coffee,’ there’s a good reason why he goes as simply, Black Coffee, and it has to do with how he sees himself. “I’m from the dance world, but I consider myself a producer.

“I think I almost got trapped into one world of being a dance music producer when I’ve always known I can do more,” he goes on to say. “Now I’m starting to really do stuff… I’m working on a song with Yuna, working on a song with Cassie, for their projects. I’m doing something with Diplo. That’s the world I want to be in. I’m doing songs; they don’t have to be in the club.”

And that matters. If not to anyone, than just to a few names — you’ve probably never heard of them: Drake and Alicia Keys. These are artists he’s already churned out hit records for.

Black Coffee is currently on tour of the UK and, in the interview, talks about how much he loves Tom Misch (because who doesn’t?).
